The “All-You-Need-Microcontroller” – ESP8266 and ESP32

The ESP8266 and its brother ESP32, engineered by Espressif, became really popular over the last years, they can do almost the same than Arduino is able to but with a much better performance and with big plus, it is connected by Wifi. So the first hurdle is taken almost without effort 🙂


What kind of products do use the ESP8266 / ESP32?

A lot of devices you certainly have seen once in shops or even local discounters do you use a kind of ESP Chip insight. The cheaper one’s are mostly produced by a manufacturer called TUYA. These devices are coming with an easy to install app like “Tuya Smart” or “Smart Life” for Android as well as Apple.

If you just want to switch some lights, close your blinds and or controll your plugs to switch on you christmas lights to a defined time, you could be fine with these products as is.
But, you need to consider that Tuya has proven to collect some of your personal data, e.g. your location. If you don’t mind, this is an easy way to start automating parts of your home as simple as possible.
